Statewide Docs

Getting started

Go from no account to a running community, with your staff in and your public site up, in seven steps.

This is the path for a new community owner. You need a Discord account; everything else happens inside Statewide. Statewide is free during the beta.

1. Sign in

Open statewide.gg and press Log In With Discord or Start a community. See Sign in with Discord or email.

2. Create your community

On My communities, press Create Community and give it a name, a slug for its addresses and a timezone. Copy the join key it shows you. See Create a community.

3. Run the guided setup

Six short steps open straight after: Basics, Agencies, Codes, Discord, Joining and Done. Skip any step and finish it later from Admin. See Set up your community. Your community already has departments, roles, status codes, dispositions and lists, so the MDT works on day one: see What a new community starts with.

If you skipped the Discord step, add the Statewide bot to your server now so roster roles follow your departments. See Set up the Discord bot.

Require a linked Discord account is on by default, so your staff must link Discord to their Statewide account before they can join or use your community. See Require Discord.

5. Invite your staff

Choose how people join, then share the join key or an invite link in your Discord. See Invite your staff and members.

6. Give your staff their roles

Open Admin, Members, select your staff and press Assign Role. Roles decide what each person can open. See Manage members and roles and Manage members.

7. Open your public site

Every community has a public site at sites.statewide.gg/<your-slug>, with your departments, staff, announcements and an Apply button.

  1. Open the address and check it shows. If it doesn't, turn on the Public site module under Admin, Modules.
  2. Change pages in the site editor. Edits stay a draft until you press Publish: see Preview and publish your site.
  3. Optional: serve it from a domain you own. See Use your own domain.

Your staff are in and your public site is up.

Joining someone else's community

Got a key or an invite link? See Join a community. Some communities ask you to apply first.
