Import from Google Docs or Word
Bring a Google Doc or Word file into a document draft, keeping headings, lists, tables and links.
Import in the document editor puts a document into your draft. The published version stays live until you press Publish.
Import a document
Press Import and pick one:
- Paste from Google Docs: copy in Google Docs, then paste into the dialog or straight into the page.
- Upload a Word file (.docx): up to 10 MB. From Google Docs, choose File, Download, Microsoft Word.
- Google Docs share link: for documents shared as "Anyone with the link can view". Statewide only opens Google Docs addresses and never follows a link to another site. A private document shows "Share it as anyone with the link, or download it as Word and upload."
Imports keep headings, bold, italic, underline, lists, numbering, tables and links. They drop fonts, colors, comments, suggestions and page breaks.
Limits
- 20 imports an hour per editor.
- A document over 50,000 characters of Markdown is refused: split it into several pages.
- Up to 20 images from a Word file are stored with your community: PNG, JPEG or WebP up to 5 MB each. Others are left out and a notice says how many.
- A paragraph over 4,000 characters is saved as several paragraphs. This mostly affects pasted walls of text.
