Import a GitBook export
Turn a GitBook export or a folder of Markdown files into knowledge base spaces, groups and pages.
Moving from GitBook? Import its export and Statewide builds the spaces, groups and pages for you.
Import
- Open Documents, then Import. You need
docs.manage. - Upload a
.zipof a GitBook export or of a folder of Markdown files. - Read the Import report. It lists everything that wasn't converted, such as unknown GitBook tags, or says "Everything was converted."
What comes across
SUMMARY.mdsets the spaces, groups and page order. Each top-level part becomes a space, in order.- A front-matter
descriptionbecomes the page summary. - GitBook hints (info, warning, danger, success) become callouts, embeds become link cards, and footnotes and tables come along.
- Images are copied into Statewide, and links between imported pages are rewritten to work.
- Coloured severity dots become your severity tags when the colour matches a tag, and plain text otherwise.
Limits
- Up to 50 MB and 500 pages. A bigger zip is refused and nothing is written.
- Past 200 images, the rest are left out and listed in the report.
- A page can't be longer than 50,000 characters.
- Web pages, scripts and programs are refused, as are zips with links to other files, paths outside their own folder, another archive, a password, or the same file twice.
