Verify a custom domain
How Statewide checks your domain and issues HTTPS, what each status means, and how to fix a domain that fails.
After you add a domain and its DNS records, Statewide verifies it and issues its certificate.
Verification
- At the Statewide edge, Statewide checks for you: a minute after you add the domain, then less often, up to once an hour, for 72 hours. Check Verification pulls the next check forward.
- Without the edge, there are no automatic checks. Check Verification looks for the TXT record and verifies the domain when it finds it.
You can check once every 10 minutes and 24 times a day.
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Waiting for TXT | Add the TXT record. |
| Pending | Waiting for the DNS records to check out. |
| Verifying | Statewide is checking now. |
| Verified | The domain is live. |
| Failed | Checking stopped. The message says why. |
At the edge, a domain still not verified 72 hours after you added it is marked Failed. Check the DNS records, then press Retry for a fresh 72 hours.
HTTPS
The Statewide edge issues and renews a certificate once DNS points at it. Nothing on port 80, such as a CDN proxy, may block plain HTTP while it is issued. With CDN in front, your CDN serves HTTPS and the edge routes the traffic behind it.
Fix an error
The domain shows a message when something goes wrong, such as "TXT record not found". Check the TXT host and value: DNS changes can take a while. Every message and its fix is in the reference.
